LA's arts scene is spread across the whole county, so a good night usually means picking one neighborhood and staying in it. Museums line up along Wilshire, galleries cluster downtown and in Culver City, and the theaters are everywhere.
LACMA, the Getty Center and the Hammer Museum are the big Westside names. The Broad and MOCA anchor downtown. Many museums run a late evening each week, so check the museum's own site before you pay full price.
Gallery openings are the cheap option. Most are free, start in the early evening and thin out by nine, so arrive early for the wine and the conversation.
Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Ahmanson Theatre take the large productions. Small black-box theaters in Hollywood and Atwater Village take the bigger risks. The Egyptian Theatre and the New Beverly Cinema show repertory films, some on 35mm prints.
Parking at the big museums fills up on weekends, so take a rideshare or transit when you can. Explore the downtown and Hollywood guides for nearby stops, or browse everything on the events page.
