Three Los Angeles artists with solo shows hanging at the same gallery sit down together on Saturday afternoon. If you are making a list of things to do in Los Angeles this month, this conversation at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is a good one to pencil in.
When: Saturday, October 10, 2026. Refreshments and viewing at 1:00 PM, talk at 2:00 PM. Where: Luis De Jesus Los Angeles Price: Not listed. RSVP is requested because seating is limited.
Who is talking
Phung Huynh, June Edmonds and Sherin Guirguis will discuss the themes and experiences that shaped the exhibitions currently on view. The gallery says the talk begins promptly at 2 p.m., so arrive early enough to see the work first.
Huynh's show, Bite the Hand that Feeds You, brings together new drawings, paintings and sculptural installations built around pink donut boxes. The boxes point to the labor of Cambodian refugees in California, and the series treats pink as a symbol of immigrant resilience.
Edmonds's Inheritance extends her Flag series. The paintings treat the American flag as a mutable symbol, one whose promises of freedom and belonging remain unevenly realized, and they respond to broader injustices facing citizens and immigrants alike.
Guirguis presents Into the Lake of Fire, a series of monoprints that revive Indigenous Egyptian language and honor ancestral African roots. Her palette draws on historic Egyptian pigments, with water patterns that nod to the Nile flowing over the forms of a glyph poem.
What to expect
The afternoon opens with an hour of refreshments and open viewing, which is the easiest way to get your bearings before the artists speak. Then the three of them talk about how personal, family and community stories turn into paintings, prints and installations. Expect a conversation about process and meaning rather than a lecture.
Because the three shows run side by side, the talk doubles as a guided tour of how very different practices answer related questions about identity, belonging and memory.
Planning your visit
Seating is limited, and the gallery asks guests to reserve a spot through the Eventbrite RSVP linked from the Discover Los Angeles listing. Check the gallery's own site for current hours and the exact entrance before you head out, and give yourself extra time for parking in the area.
If you want to build a full day around it, this is one of the LA events this weekend that pairs well with lunch beforehand and a wander through nearby galleries afterward. For more ideas, browse the arts and culture listings or the Downtown page, and see what else is on the calendar of upcoming events in Los Angeles.
