Reparations Club, the Black-owned concept bookshop and creative space in Los Angeles, is hosting a book launch on Friday, October 23. The book is Leave It For The Children, a visual history of the Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra, and the evening brings its authors together for a conversation with the community. If you are scanning things to do in Los Angeles this month and want something that is more conversation than spectacle, this fits.
When: Friday, October 23, 2026, 7:00 PM Where: Reparations Club, 3054 South Victoria Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90016 Price: Free (RSVP through Eventbrite)
What to expect
The authors are Samuel Lamontagne and Darol Olu Kae. They will be joined by moderator Evan Nicole Brown for a discussion of the book and the history behind it. The book tells the story of the Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra in visual form, and the conversation is a chance to hear from the authors about how it came together.
Expect a relaxed shop setting rather than a formal lecture hall. Rep Club's events tend to mix a talk with browsing, so plan to arrive a little early and look through the shelves. The shop is known for its curation of Black and BIPOC titles, and an author night is a good chance to pick up a copy and meet the people who made it.
Why it is worth your evening
Art books about local music history are easy to miss. A launch like this puts the people behind the project in the same room as readers, which is the point of a neighborhood bookshop. It is also an easy pick when you are checking LA events this weekend for something low-cost that you can attend without much planning.
Rep Club was founded by Jazzi McGilbert, who grew up in South Central Los Angeles, and has been a gathering place for writers, artists and neighbors since it opened in 2019. Having a book about a community institution launched inside another community institution suits the setting.
Getting there
The shop is on South Victoria Avenue, so give yourself some time to find parking or take a rideshare. Doors and seating details are not listed in the event page, so check the Eventbrite listing for any updates before you go. Free events with limited space can fill, so RSVP ahead of time and arrive early.
