Cabrillo Marine Aquarium opens its doors to the community for a morning of picking up trash along the San Pedro shoreline. The next cleanup is Saturday, November 7, and it is one of the easier LA events this weekend to bring kids to, since it is free and open to anyone ages 3 and up.
What to expect
Aquarium educators and volunteers lead the cleanup. You gather, get oriented, and then spend the morning clearing marine debris from the sand. Expect small items that add up fast: bottle caps, wrappers, bits of plastic and the odd piece of fishing line. It is a hands-on way to see how much ends up at the water's edge, and the educators are there to explain where it comes from and why it matters for the tide pool and ocean life the aquarium cares for.
The event is part of a regular series. It runs on the first Saturday of each month, so if November 7 does not work, the next one is on December 5.
Event details
When: Saturday, November 7, 2026, 9:00 to 10:30 AM Where: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, 3720 Stephen M. White Drive, San Pedro Cost: Free Ages: 3 and up Meet: At the steps in front of the auditorium
Planning your visit
Dress for the beach even if the morning is cool: closed-toe shoes, layers and a hat. Bring water, and wear clothes you do not mind getting sandy. Sunscreen is worth packing, since the marine layer can burn off quickly. Check the aquarium's website before you go, because the source notes that dates and times are subject to change.
If you are building a list of things happening in Los Angeles this month, this pairs well with a visit to the aquarium itself once the cleanup wraps up. San Pedro is a bit of a drive from most of the city, so leave extra time for parking near Cabrillo Beach on a weekend.
Why go
A cleanup is one of the few outings where kids can see an immediate result. An hour of work leaves a visibly cleaner stretch of sand, and it costs nothing. For more ideas, browse the rest of our arts and culture events and keep an eye on upcoming events in Los Angeles through the season.
