CicLAvia is back on Sunday, October 11, and this one runs through the middle of the city. It is the 68th open streets event in the organization's 16-year history, and the idea hasn't changed: close the streets to cars, open them to everyone else, and see what happens. If you are looking at things to do in Los Angeles this month, this is the one that costs nothing and asks only that you show up on foot, on a bike or on wheels.
When: Sunday, October 11, 2026, 9 AM to 4 PM Where: Downtown Los Angeles and the neighborhoods along the route Price: Free Route: About 6.5 miles of car-free streets
What to expect
The Heart of LA route links several of the city's oldest neighborhoods. Based on the official route map, it starts at an Echo Park hub, runs along Glendale Boulevard and 2nd Street into Downtown, then splits toward a Chinatown hub on North Broadway and a Little Tokyo hub. From there it carries on along Central Avenue, 6th Street and Whittier Boulevard to a finish at Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights.
You choose how much of it to cover. Plenty of people ride the whole length. Others walk a few blocks, stop for food in Chinatown or Little Tokyo, and head home. Strollers, skateboards, scooters, roller skates and handcycles all fit in. The activity hubs along the way are where you will find music, vendors and places to rest, and that kind of street-level energy is what makes the day worth the trip.
Getting there
Driving is the hard way to reach a car-free event. Several Metro Rail stations sit on or near the route, including Union Station, Civic Center/Grand Park, Historic Broadway, Little Tokyo/Arts District and Mariachi Plaza, so a train ride lets you join wherever suits you. Bring water, sunscreen and a lock if you ride. Crossing points for cars are marked on the official map, so watch for crossing guards and stop when told to.
For anyone planning a weekend, it fits neatly on a list of LA events this weekend, and it pairs well with brunch or a museum stop on either end. The route and hours come from the organizer, so check ciclavia.org for any last-minute changes before you go.
Why it matters
CicLAvia says the program aims to bring joy to Angelenos, build vibrant public spaces and encourage active transportation and good health. For one Sunday, the streets are the destination.
