Photographer and artist David LaChapelle comes to Terraform LA for an evening conversation hosted by Samy's Camera and Phase One. For anyone who follows contemporary image-making, this is one of the more interesting things to do in Los Angeles this October.

When: Thursday, October 22, 2026, 6:30 to 8:30 PM Where: Terraform LA, 4101 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90029 Price: Free, per the Eventbrite listing Host: Samy's Camera Los Angeles with Phase One

What the evening is about

LaChapelle is known for saturated, theatrical photography that moves between fashion, celebrity portraiture and fine art. An artist talk is a chance to hear how a photographer thinks about that work: how an image gets conceived, what equipment and process sit behind it, and how a career spans magazines, galleries and large-scale projects.

The event is organized by Samy's Camera, the long-running Los Angeles camera retailer, together with Phase One, the maker of high-resolution medium format camera systems. Expect the conversation to touch on image quality and craft as well as ideas, which makes it a good fit for working photographers, students and anyone curious about the technical side of large-format digital capture.

Availability

Heads up: when this page was last checked, the Eventbrite listing showed the event as sold out. Free events with limited room often release a few spots closer to the date, so it is worth checking the listing again before you write it off. If you do have a ticket, plan to arrive a little early, since the talk starts at 6:30 PM and seating at gallery-style venues tends to fill quickly.

Getting there

Terraform LA is at 4101 Melrose Avenue. Weeknight street parking around Melrose can be limited, so allow extra time or consider a rideshare, and check the listing for any parking notes from the organizer.
