Design West Hollywood is back for its second year, and this time the organizers picked a theme that sounds more like a Joan Didion title than a trade show: "Magical Thinking." It kicks off Tuesday, September 29, and the organizers say it runs through Thursday, October 1. If you care about interiors, furniture or architecture, it's one of the more interesting things to do in Los Angeles this week, and you don't have to work in the industry to get something out of it.
Who's behind it
The event is a joint effort. The West Hollywood Design District is the host, producers Kelsey Dodson-Smith and Jo Campbell Fujii are running the show, and LUXE Interiors + Design is the media partner. Visit West Hollywood signed on as the official destination partner. The district itself is the draw here: a few dense blocks of showrooms, galleries and design brands clustered around Melrose Avenue, Robertson Boulevard and Beverly Boulevard, with the Pacific Design Center's big blue and green glass buildings sitting in the middle of it all.
Caitlin Penny chairs the district's board and runs Rose Tarlow Melrose House. She called the neighborhood "the beating heart of Los Angeles' creative community," which is a big claim, but walk down Melrose Place on a weekday and you'll see why people make it.
What to expect
The 2026 program pulls in people from interiors, hospitality, architecture, art, entertainment and fashion. Over the three days there are keynote conversations, panel discussions, exhibitions and a handful of invite-style gatherings. The theme asks a simple question: how does imagination push design forward? Expect that to show up in showroom installations as much as on stage.
The organizers pitch it to industry pros and emerging designers, but they also say they want regular Angelenos walking the streets and poking into showrooms. That's the best way to do it. Pick a talk or two, then wander.
Practical info
The full schedule, ticket details and pricing come from the organizers, so check the Discover Los Angeles listing and the Design West Hollywood site before you go. We haven't seen a published price, and some gatherings may be limited. The district sits in West Hollywood's 90069 zip code. Parking is metered and tight on Melrose and Robertson during the day, so plan on a rideshare or leave extra time. Metro buses run along Santa Monica Boulevard and Beverly Boulevard a short walk away.
If you're mapping out upcoming events Los Angeles has on the calendar this fall, this one pairs well with a gallery crawl. And if you're hunting for LA events this weekend, the showrooms along Melrose Place are worth a stroll any day they're open.
