Saturday afternoons are made for a big stage show, and the January 23, 2027 matinee of Disney's The Lion King is a strong way to spend one. The touring production sets up at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, an Art Deco movie palace that still works as a full-time home for Broadway-scale musicals.

When: Saturday, January 23, 2027, 1:00 PM Where: Hollywood Pantages Theatre, 6233 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028 Tickets: Through Ticketmaster, linked below

What to expect

The Lion King follows Simba, a young lion who runs from the Pride Lands after his father's death and has to find his way back to claim his place. The musical pairs that story with Elton John and Tim Rice songs, African rhythms and puppetry that turns performers into giraffes, gazelles and a stampeding herd of wildebeest. The animal figures are built so you can still see the actors working them, which is part of the charm.

The show runs roughly two and a half hours with an intermission, a comfortable length for older children. Families make up a good share of the audience, and plenty of adults go for the staging alone. A Saturday matinee also leaves the evening free for dinner nearby.

Planning your visit

The Pantages sits right on Hollywood Boulevard, a short walk from the Metro B Line stop at Hollywood and Vine, so the train is a simple way to skip the parking hunt. Lots and garages around the theater fill up on show days, so arrive early if you drive. Leave a few minutes to look around the lobby before you find your seat.

Ticket prices vary by section and performance, so check the Ticketmaster listing for the current range rather than relying on a number here. This date has its own listing, separate from the other Lion King performances at the Pantages, so make sure the January 23 matinee is the one you pick.

If you are building a list of things happening in Hollywood this winter, this is the headline stage show on the boulevard. For anyone filling a weekend with things to do in Los Angeles, a matinee here pairs easily with a walk past the Walk of Fame and an early dinner.
