Disney On Ice presents Jump In starts its downtown run at Crypto.com Arena on Friday, December 18. That's one week before Christmas, right as school lets out for winter break, which makes it one of the easier family picks among the Things Happening In Los Angeles that week. The same floor the Lakers and Kings play on gets covered with a full sheet of ice, and professional skaters take it over in costume.

Why Friday

Friday is the opening day of the arena stop. The weekend shows on Saturday and Sunday usually draw the biggest crowds, especially the morning matinees, so a Friday ticket can be the calmer way in. Kids get a head start on vacation, and you get your Saturday back for holiday errands.

It's also a school night for some districts and a vacation night for others, so check your calendar. Ticketmaster has the exact showtime on the listing linked below. We couldn't pull it from the page when we checked, so we're not going to guess.

What to expect

Disney On Ice productions are built around familiar Disney characters and songs, skated by trained figure skaters. The photo up top comes from an earlier Disney On Ice tour, not Jump In itself, but the staging is similar: tight spotlights on the ice, bright costumes and characters you'll recognize from the upper deck. Expect a lot of singing along. Most of these shows have an intermission, and that's when the snack and merch lines get long.

Bring a sweater. That much ice keeps the bowl cold, even in LA. Light-up wands and plush toys sell inside at arena prices, so settle the budget in the car before anyone sees the souvenir stand.

Tickets and getting there

Tickets are on Ticketmaster. Pricing wasn't published when we checked, so look at the seat map for current costs. Crypto.com Arena sits at the south end of downtown next to L.A. Live, and the Metro A and E lines stop at Pico station a short walk away. Driving means paying for event parking in the nearby L.A. Live structures, and Friday evening traffic on the 110 and 10 gets slow in December. Give yourself extra time.

If you're sorting through LA events this weekend in mid-December, holiday-week shows sell faster than usual. More family-friendly ideas live in our arts and culture listings and the downtown neighborhood page, and the full list of things to do in los angeles is on our events page.
