Disney On Ice presents Jump In closes out its Crypto.com Arena run on Sunday, December 20, and it's one of the easier family calls among the Things Happening In Los Angeles that last weekend before Christmas. The arena floor that usually hosts the Lakers and Kings gets covered in a full sheet of ice, and professional skaters take it over in character.
Showtimes
Ticketmaster has three listings tied to this weekend. Saturday, December 19 has an evening show at 6:30 PM. Sunday, December 20 brings two more: an 11:00 AM matinee and a 3:00 PM show. All three were marked on sale when we checked.
Sunday is the final day of the stop, so there's no makeup date if plans fall through. The 11 AM slot works well for toddlers who nap after lunch. The 3 PM show gives you a slower morning, and you'll still be home for dinner. Saturday night suits older kids who can handle a later bedtime.
What to expect
Disney On Ice shows are built around Disney characters and songs, performed by trained figure skaters with big lighting cues and costume changes. The photo up top is from an earlier Disney On Ice production, not Jump In itself, but it gives you a sense of the staging: spotlights on the ice, bright color washes, characters you'll recognize instantly. Expect singing along from the seats and an intermission, which is when the snack and merch lines stack up.
It's colder inside than you'd think. That much ice keeps the bowl chilly, so pack a sweater for anyone who runs cold. Light-up wands and plush toys are sold inside at arena prices. Settle the budget in the car, not at the stand.
Tickets and getting there
Each performance has its own Ticketmaster page, linked in this post's sources. Ticketmaster didn't publish a price range for these dates when we checked, so look at the seat map for current costs before you commit. If you're sorting through LA events this weekend in mid-December, book early. Holiday weekends go fast, and weekend matinees usually sell first.
Crypto.com Arena sits at 1111 S. Figueroa St., right next to L.A. Live. Event-day parking in the nearby structures isn't cheap. The Metro A and E Lines stop at Pico Station, a few minutes' walk away, and 7th St/Metro Center is close enough if you're coming in on the B or D Line. A stroller on the train is less stress than circling for a spot.
After the show, L.A. Live usually has holiday decorations up, and there are plenty of places to eat within a block. For more family picks and other things to do in Los Angeles, browse our arts and culture listings or see what's on in Downtown LA.
