Saturday mornings at the Academy Museum belong to families. The museum on Wilshire Boulevard runs a monthly series of Family Matinees, and the November 7 screening is the 2003 version of Haunted Mansion, the Eddie Murphy comedy about a real estate agent and his family spending a night in a house full of ghosts. It is spooky enough to keep the Halloween mood going and gentle enough for most kids.
When: Saturday, November 7, 2026, 11:00 AM Where: Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, 6067 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 Tickets: $5
What to expect
Every movie in the series is rated G or PG unless the museum says otherwise, so you can bring a mixed-age group without much planning. The screening happens in the museum's theater, which makes it a different experience from a living room replay. If you are collecting things to do in Los Angeles with kids this month, a $5 ticket is hard to beat.
The rest of the November lineup, per the listing:
- November 14: Frankenweenie
- November 21: Wendell & Wild
- November 28: Gremlins, presented as the accessible screening
Accessible screenings
The final Family Matinee of each month is an accessible screening. The museum shows it with open captioning, a dimly lit theater and the volume kept lower, set up specifically for neurodivergent viewers. The November 7 show is a regular screening, so look to November 28 if that format fits your family better.
Getting there
The museum sits in the Miracle Mile area at the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax, in the former May Company building. Metro buses run along Wilshire, and paid parking is available nearby. Plan to arrive a little early so you have time to find seats before an 11:00 AM start.
Showtimes and dates can change, so check the listing or the museum's own site before you go. For other LA events this weekend, the arts and culture section keeps a running list, and the museum's galleries make a good add-on once the credits roll.
