If you are hunting for LA events this weekend that cost nothing and ask very little of you, the Fiber Maker's Circle at LACMA is a good pick. It is a relaxed Sunday afternoon of making things by hand, set outdoors at the museum, and it suits anyone who owns a half-finished scarf or has always wanted to learn how to start one.

When: Sun Nov 8, 2026, 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM Where: W.M. Keck Plaza, LACMA, 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 Price: Free

What to expect

The circle is led by Gem Lagonoy and hosted by Andell Family Sundays, the museum's weekly family program. You are invited to bring whatever project you are working on right now, whether that is knitting, crochet, embroidery or something else involving thread and yarn. If you do not have a project, you can grab supplies from the museum's stash and pick up a new skill on the spot.

The format is a circle in the old sense: people sit together, work on their own pieces and trade tips. Beginners can ask for help, and more experienced makers can show a stitch or two to the person next to them. LACMA says the program is open to all ages and skill levels, so it works for a parent and kid learning side by side as well as for a solo crafter who wants company.

There is no registration listed and no admission charge for the circle itself, so you can drop in for the full three hours or just stop by for part of the afternoon. It takes place outside the W.M. Keck Education Center, so dress for the weather and plan to sit for a while.

Getting there

LACMA sits on Wilshire Boulevard at Fairfax. The Metro D Line now stops at Wilshire/Fairfax Station, which brings you directly to the museum, and you can plan the trip at Metro.net. Street parking nearby is limited on weekends, so transit is the easier route.

One note for planning your day: the museum has announced it will close to the public at 1 PM on Saturday, November 7 for a private event. That is the day before this program, but it is worth checking LACMA's site before you head over.

If you are putting together a list of upcoming events in Los Angeles that suit a slow Sunday, pair the circle with a walk through the grounds afterward. Check the LACMA event page for any last-minute changes before you go.
