Figuring Space Featuring AMMA, Gurmukhi Desai Bevli, jeremy de’jon guyton, and Mamie Green/ VOLTA is at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, Los Angeles, on Dec 11, 2026. Tickets: $12 General Admission, $10 MOCA Members.
Figuring Space is a shared evening of new and in-process work from four LA-based artists: AMMA, Gurmukhi Desai Bevli, jeremy de’jon guyton and Mamie Green/ VOLTA. Each was invited to respond to the architecture of MOCA's WAREHOUSE through movement. It is one of the more unusual upcoming events in Los Angeles for contemporary dance, and it runs for two nights only.
When: Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12, 2026, 6:30pm both nights Where: The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, 152 North Central Avenue, Los Angeles Admission: $12 general, $10 MOCA members
What to expect
All four artists trained in contemporary dance and choreography, and the invitation is to experiment, improvise and play. Rather than bringing a finished piece to a neutral stage, they inhabit the building and figure out the space as they go. The WAREHOUSE has an industrial history: it was once a police car storage facility, and now it is an art museum in Downtown LA. Each artist reconfigures that contradiction in their own way.
The evening continues MOCA's ongoing presentation of site-specific movement and sound-based work made in dialogue with the building. Expect work that is still taking shape, which is part of the appeal.
The artists
AMMA is the choreographic practice of Alexsa Durrans and Miles Brenninkmeijer, established in 2018. Their dances draw on the spectacle of movement in arena concerts, halftime shows and synchronized swimming. Recent presentations include Recital (Epilogue) at Human Resources LA.
Gurmukhi Desai Bevli, jeremy de’jon guyton and Mamie Green/ VOLTA round out the bill. MOCA's event page carries their full bios if you want to read up before you go.
Planning your night
Performances start at 6:30pm each night, so plan to arrive a little early. A cash bar presented by Sister Midnight opens inside WAREHOUSE 30 minutes before the start for guests 21 and over, and you will need a valid ID. Drinks can be taken to your seat and enjoyed during the performance.
The Geffen Contemporary sits just off Central Avenue in Little Tokyo, an easy add-on to dinner nearby. If you are scanning things happening in Los Angeles that week, this is a good pick for anyone who likes live art in an unexpected room. Tickets are through the official MOCA event page, listed in the sources below. Browse more arts and culture events across the city.
