If you would rather give something you made than something you bought, this is a good way to spend a couple of afternoons. Quintal is hosting a two-session handbuilding pottery workshop in Encino, and it is easily one of the more hands-on things to do in Los Angeles as the holidays approach.
When: Wednesday, November 4, 1:00 to 3:00 PM (first session of the Wednesday block) Where: A garden setting in Encino Sessions: Two meetings per block, one to build and one to glaze
What you will make
The format is simple. In the first session you build your pieces by hand from clay. A week later you come back and glaze them. Everything is then kiln-fired, so the finished work is ready in time for gifting or for your own holiday table.
The source suggests candle holders, holiday ornaments, kinaras, menorahs and small festive dishes, but the brief is open: make whatever the season inspires. That range covers Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa traditions, which is a nice touch for a mixed group of friends or a family.
Who teaches it
The class is taught by local artist Andrea Nhuch, a former Mount Saint Mary's University instructor who earned her MFA in 2024. Classes are small and run in a sunny, welcoming garden, which makes for a relaxed alternative to a studio full of wheels.
Session blocks
Several blocks are available, each with two meetings:
- Saturdays, November 7 and 14, 1:00 to 3:00 PM
- Mondays, November 9 and 16, 6:00 to 8:00 PM
- Wednesdays, November 4 and 11, 1:00 to 3:00 PM
Single-day try-outs are available on request. The poster also notes that materials are included, but check with the organizer before you book.
Good to know
All skill levels are welcome, and children can join alongside a supervising adult, so it works for a parent and kid or a group of friends who have never touched clay. The listing does not publish a price or a street address, so contact the organizer through the event page to confirm cost, the exact location and which block still has space.
If you are filling out a list of LA events this weekend or later in the month, the Saturday block is the easiest fit for most schedules. Weeknight and weekday options help if your calendar is tighter. Browse more in our arts and culture section for other creative workshops around town.
