Holiday season in Los Angeles has a way of stirring up family stories, and few formats handle them better than a microphone and five minutes. On Tuesday, November 10, LAist and The Moth bring a StorySLAM to Silver Lake with the theme Home for the Holidays. If you are making a list of things to do in Los Angeles that involve real people rather than a screen, this one belongs on it.

When: Tuesday, November 10, 2026. Doors 6:30 PM, show 7:30 PM Where: Los Globos, 3040 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 Tickets: $20, 21+ Presented by: LAist and The Moth

How a StorySLAM works

A StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition. Anyone can put their name in to tell a true, first-person story of about five minutes on the night's theme. No notes, no props, no slides. The story has to live in the telling, and that is the whole appeal. First-timers share the room with seasoned tellers, and the audience gives both the same attention.

The theme: Home for the Holidays

The prompt is wide open. It could be the year you drove across three states to make it back for dinner, the relative who arrived with news nobody expected, or the holiday you spent far from home and learned what home meant. Good stories on a theme like this are usually funny and a little tender at once, and the best ones land on a turn you did not see coming. Think of a true moment with a clear beginning, middle and end that fits in five minutes if you plan to tell.

Who it suits

Fans of podcasts, personal essays and real-life comedy will feel at home. You can come purely to listen, and plenty of people do. Pair it with dinner on Sunset beforehand and you have a solid midweek plan.

Getting there and planning

Los Globos sits on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake, so allow extra time for evening traffic and consider rideshare or transit if you plan to have a drink. The venue is 21+. Per the listing, tickets go on sale about three weeks before the show, seating is first-come, first-served and not guaranteed, and late arrivals may not be admitted, so aim to get there at least ten minutes before the show starts. Confirm the latest details on the official LAist event page before you go.

If you are mapping out upcoming events in Los Angeles for the weeks around Thanksgiving, a night of strangers telling the truth about family is a good way to start the season.
