LATINAFEST

The D Line extension opened a brand-new stop at Wilshire and Fairfax, and on Saturday, September 26, somebody finally threw a party in it. LATINAFest at the Metro sets up at the Wilshire / Fairfax D Line Station with a free afternoon of Latino art, books and culture. If you're scanning LA events this weekend for something that doesn't cost a thing and doesn't involve a line for brunch, put this one near the top.

What's happening

The organizers, LATINAFEST, bill the day as "Arte, Libros y Cultura," and the lineup backs that up. Folklorico dancers perform. Children's authors read aloud, which makes this an easy pick if you've got kids who'll sit still for a picture book (or at least most of one). There's an author book signing, poetry, book vendors and food.

The flyer's tagline sums it up in two languages: "Come together. Share stories. Celebrate culture." and "¡Celebremos juntos la cultura latina!" Expect a crowd that's a mix of families, readers and people who wandered in from the museums down the street.

Why the location matters

Holding a book fair on a transit platform is a little unusual, and that's part of the appeal. The Wilshire/Fairfax station is one of the newest pieces of the D Line, and plenty of Angelenos haven't set foot in it yet. This is a low-stakes excuse to check it out. The station sits at the edge of Museum Row, so LACMA, the Academy Museum and the Petersen are all a short walk away if you want to stretch the afternoon into a full day.

Practical info

  • When: Saturday, September 26, 2026. The Eventbrite listing puts it at noon to 5 PM Pacific.
  • Where: Wilshire / Fairfax D Line Station, 6026 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036
  • Cost: Free admission. RSVP through the Eventbrite page linked above so the organizers have a headcount.
  • Getting there: Take the train. You're literally showing up at a Metro station, and the D Line connects to the B Line at Wilshire/Vermont and to Union Station downtown. Driving works too, but parking around Museum Row on a Saturday fills up fast and the LACMA garages charge.

Bring cash or a card if you plan to buy books from the vendors or grab food, since the free entry doesn't cover what's for sale. A tote bag won't hurt either.

Worth your Saturday?

For a free afternoon, yes. You get live folklorico, a chance to meet authors and a look at a station most people haven't seen, all in five hours at one address. It's the kind of small, community-run event that rarely makes the big lists of things to do in Los Angeles, and it's better for it.
