Most mornings at the Natural History Museum start with the doors opening to a crowd. On Saturday, November 21, the first hour belongs to a much quieter group. Mindfulness Mornings at NHM sets up a guided sound bath in the museum's historic North American Mammal Hall before the public arrives, which makes it one of the more unusual things to do in Los Angeles this month.
When: Saturday, November 21, 2026, 8:30 to 10 AM Where: North American Mammal Hall, Level 2, Natural History Museum, 900 Exposition Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90007 Tickets: General Admission $30, Members $20
What to expect
The November 21 session is a sound bath. For about an hour you are surrounded by crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes and other instruments while the sound moves through the room. The museum describes it as restorative and regulating, a chance to let your nervous system settle. It is led by The Oso Sound Healing, a Los Angeles studio founded in 2023 by Avery Whitmore that runs weekly sound baths and immersions.
Afterward there is a meet-and-greet with the practitioners, and you can wander the museum in the morning calm. Seeing the dioramas without the weekend crowd is half the appeal.
Good to know
The museum recommends the program for ages 13 and up. The 60-minute sound bath asks you to sit or lie down the whole time, and guests are asked to stay silent throughout so everyone can fully settle in. Wear something comfortable, and consider bringing a layer, since a quiet room can feel cooler than you expect.
Your ticket includes museum admission and free parking in the NHM Car Park. Exposition Park often has several events on the same day, so arrive early to find your way in. The Metro E (Expo) Line stops at USC/Expo, a short walk from the museum, if you would rather skip parking.
Planning your day
The session wraps at 10 AM, so you will have the rest of the morning free. The museum is open to the public from 9:30 AM, which leaves you time to explore the exhibits you just slept beside, or to head out for brunch nearby. If you are mapping out LA events this weekend or the weekend after, this is an easy slow start to a Saturday. For more like it, browse our arts and culture events.
