Most of us walk through a museum alone, glance at a label and move on. The Talking Tour at MOCA Grand Avenue is built to slow that down. On Thursday, November 12, 2026, and again on November 19 and 21, a MOCA Educator leads a group through the galleries so everyone looks closely at the same work, together. It is an easy pick among the things happening in Los Angeles this week, and it costs nothing.

When: Thursdays, November 12 and 19, 2026, 2pm; Saturday, November 21, 2026, 11:30am Where: MOCA Grand Avenue, 250 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles Admission: Free with RSVP

What to expect

MOCA describes Talking Tours as a way to turn a museum visit into a shared viewing experience. A MOCA Educator facilitates, and the format invites you to pause in front of a piece, say what you notice and hear what others see. You do not need an art history background. The point is to look for longer than usual and to let the conversation shape what you take away.

The tour runs through the museum's galleries, where the current shows include In These Times: Recent Acquisitions at MOCA and Alexander Apóstol: Regime: Dramatis Personae, both on view through January 3, 2027. The acquisitions show is a good example of what a group conversation can do with contemporary work: sculpture, photography and painting sit side by side, and a different pair of eyes often catches a detail you missed.

MOCA is the only artist-founded museum in Los Angeles, established in 1979, and its educators run these sessions on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. If this date does not fit, the museum lists the upcoming schedule on its event page, so it is easy to find another slot among the upcoming events Los Angeles offers at the museum.

Practical info

Admission to the tour is free, but you need to RSVP through MOCA's event page before you go. Spots on guided programs can fill, so reserve early. Wear comfortable shoes, since you will be standing and walking through several galleries at an easy pace.

MOCA Grand Avenue sits at 250 South Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles, a short walk from Grand Park and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Metro riders can use the nearby Civic Center/Grand Park or Pershing Square stops, and several parking structures operate along Grand Avenue and Hope Street. Allow extra time to find parking and check in before 2pm.

Pair the tour with other arts and culture events around the city if you want to make an afternoon of it. Downtown has plenty of galleries, bookstores and coffee spots within walking distance, so the tour is a natural start to a slow, art-filled day.
