Mental health conferences are often aimed at clinicians. This one is not. The National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Los Angeles County is hosting a free, in-person day built around the people who live with these conditions and the families and advocates who stand beside them. The theme is "Innovation, Inclusion and Impact," and it lands on Wednesday, November 11, which makes it one of the more useful upcoming events in Los Angeles this month.
What to expect
The day mixes speakers, workshops and panels, with time set aside to meet other people who understand the journey. The organizers say it is open to advocates, caregivers and individuals living with a mental health condition. Attendees must be 18 or older.
The agenda on the ticket page lists a handful of practical sessions:
- AAPI mental health, led by Mary YanYan Chan
- Changes coming to Medicaid and Medi-Cal in 2027, with Dr. Jerry Abraham of LA Care
- Getting mental health care covered, with Joe Feldman, on pushing back against insurance denials and finding free resources
- Disability benefit claims and the added hurdles for people with mental health conditions
- Veterans support services, with Melissa Lewis of the Veterans Administration
Lyn Morris is listed as the headliner. Sponsors named on the page are Bristol Myers Squibb, Neurocrine and Sullivan House by Grace and Mind.

Getting there
The California Endowment sits just east of Union Station and Olvera Street, so public transit is a sensible choice for a weekday morning. Parking is paid, so build in a few extra minutes if you drive. The Eventbrite page has FAQs on lunch, outside food and drink, and transit options, so check it before you go.
If you are building a list of things to do in Los Angeles that actually help the community, a free day like this belongs on it.
