On Tuesday, October 20, Barnes & Noble at The Grove hosts Nara Aziza Smith for a signing of HOMEMADE, her debut cookbook. If you know her from your feed, you know the look. She cooks everything from scratch in a glamorous outfit while narrating in a soft ASMR voice. The book puts that approach on paper, and for fans it's one of the more straightforward things to do in Los Angeles this October, since the book comes with the ticket.
The book
The store's event page calls Smith "the best-dressed culinary creator in digital media," and HOMEMADE leans into that. Behind the styled videos, the listing says, is a working mom with a pretty ordinary goal: cooking nourishing whole foods for herself and her family.
There are 80 recipes in it, pitched as homemade and family-friendly. That's a good sign if you've watched her videos and wondered how much of it you'd actually cook on a weeknight.
How the night works
This is a live signing and photo op, not a talk or a cooking demo. Your ticket covers one copy of HOMEMADE, a spot in the meet-and-greet line, a signature and a photo with Smith. A B&N bookseller takes the photo on your own phone or camera, so charge it before you leave the house.
A few rules from the listing are worth reading before you buy:
- Everyone needs their own ticket. People without one can't enter or join the queue.
- Smith is signing the book only. No memorabilia.
- Large bags aren't allowed in, so leave them in the car.
- Buy from the official B&N Eventbrite page. The store can't verify tickets from resellers or copycat pages.
Timing and tickets
When: Tuesday, October 20, 2026, 7 PM (check-in from 6 PM) Where: Barnes & Noble The Grove, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles Tickets: $42.32 on Eventbrite, book included
Ticket holders can get in starting at 6 PM. Stop by the first-floor customer service desk to find out where to check in, and have your ticket ready on your phone or printed out. The store says the end time will be set on the day, and late arrivals might not get into the event space. Aim for the early side. Some of the line may form outside, so dress for whatever October is doing that evening.
The event description lists the Book Admission ticket at $38.41, while Eventbrite shows $42.32, so the gap is likely fees. Quantities are limited. Refunds are available up to one day before the event, and if you can't make it, the store holds your book for seven days afterward. Call 323-525-0270 to arrange pickup.
Getting there
The Grove sits at Third Street and Fairfax Avenue, right beside the Original Farmers Market. This Barnes & Noble is the chain's West Coast flagship and a regular stop for big author signings. The Grove has its own parking structure, which gets busy in the evening, so leave a few extra minutes. Metro buses run along Fairfax and Third Street if you'd rather skip the car. Arrive early enough and you can grab dinner at a Farmers Market stall before check-in.
More book events and exhibits are on the arts and culture calendar, and the rest of the city's lineup is under Things Happening In Los Angeles.
