Most car museums keep their vehicles behind ropes. On Friday, November 6, the Petersen Automotive Museum lets visitors climb into a Ford Model A and ride it around the neighborhood. It is one of the more unusual things to do in Los Angeles this month, and it costs nothing.
When: Friday, November 6, 2026, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Where: Petersen Automotive Museum, 6060 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles Price: Free
What the Ride A-long is
The Model A went on sale in 1927 as the successor to the Model T, and the cars were everywhere through the early 1930s. The museum is bringing one outside for a short cruise around Miracle Mile, the stretch of Wilshire Boulevard the museum sits on. You sit in a car built nearly a century ago and feel how it rides, how loud it is and how the street looks from behind a wire-wheeled hood.
The rides are short by design. The museum describes them as a short cruise, so expect a loop of a few minutes rather than a tour, with a wait between turns if a crowd gathers.
How it works
The program is free and open to the community. Rides go on a first-come, first-served basis while availability lasts, and no registration is required. Show up during the two-hour window and join the line. Because there are no reservations, arriving early in the window gives you the best odds, and a ride is not guaranteed once the window closes.
If you are looking for LA events this weekend with a family angle, this one starts on a Friday late morning, which suits kids on a day off and anyone with a flexible lunch hour. It works for adults as well. Car people will want to look closely at the details that set a late-1920s Ford apart from anything built today.
Getting there
The Petersen is at 6060 Wilshire Boulevard, at the corner of Fairfax Avenue, next to the La Brea Tar Pits and the other Miracle Mile museums. Parking is available at the museum's structure, and metro buses run along Wilshire and Fairfax. Check the museum's own page for any late changes before you go.
Make a day of it. The museum's galleries are open to ticketed visitors, and the neighborhood has plenty of lunch options within walking distance. Browse our arts and culture listings for other upcoming events in Los Angeles worth pairing with the visit.
