Project Hail Mary is at Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, on Nov 12, 2026, 7:30 PM. Tickets: $20 general admission, $10 Hammer members.
The Hammer Museum is putting a big-budget space adventure on its screen, and the people who made it will be in the room afterward. Project Hail Mary plays Thursday, November 12, as part of MoMA Contenders 2026, a film series organized by The Museum of Modern Art. It is an easy pick if you are scanning upcoming events in Los Angeles for something that mixes a proper movie night with a real conversation.
When: Thursday, November 12, 2026, 7:30 PM Where: Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles Tickets: $20 general admission, $10 for Hammer members Runtime: 156 minutes
What the film is about
Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a high school science teacher who never signed up to save humanity. He is thrust, quite unwillingly, into space as Earth's last hope for survival. The film is based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir.
According to the museum, Grace is guided by a no-nonsense terrestrial leader, Eva Stratt, played by Sandra Hüller, and by an exuberant extra-terrestrial partner named Rocky, performed and voiced by James Ortiz. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed, and the Hammer describes the result as made with wit and wonder. Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay.
The conversation afterward
The screening is followed by a conversation with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and screenwriter Drew Goddard. For anyone curious about how a novel full of science gets turned into a crowd-pleaser, hearing from the filmmakers is the draw here. Guests and format are the museum's to confirm, so check the event page for any changes closer to the night.
The screening is a DCP courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios, which means a digital cinema print shown on the Hammer's screen.
Tickets and getting there
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for Hammer members. Current members get an email with a link to buy, or can contact membership@hammer.ucla.edu. Museum admission is free, but this screening is ticketed separately.
The Hammer sits on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood, next to the UCLA campus. The museum's site has current parking and visit details, so look there before you head out.
