Part sermon, part confession and part dance party, HEAUX CHURCH is the kind of night that does not fit neatly into a theater listing. Writer and performer Brandon Kyle Goodman brings the show to Los Angeles for a limited run, fresh from a Queerty-nominated and extended world premiere at Off-Broadway's Ars Nova. If you are scanning for things to do in Los Angeles this first weekend of November, this is one of the more distinctive picks.

When: Thursday, November 5 through Sunday, November 8, 2026, 7:30 PM Where: The Elysian Theater, 1944 Riverside Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90039 Tickets: $35 General Admission, $55 Reserved Presented by: Celebration Theatre and The Elysian, in association with Lena Waithe

What to expect

Each night, Goodman plays a former pastor's kid leading the congregation through a rousing service on the birds, the bees and the booty. The pitch is simple: the sex talk you never got but always deserved, delivered with spirited storytelling, music and a lot of humor. The show aims to help audiences let go of the shame that tries to erase parts of ourselves, and to invite everyone to unleash their inner heaux.

The original New York company travels with it. DJ Ari Grooves handles the music and puppeteer Greg Corbino joins Goodman on stage. Lisa Owaki Bierman directs, continuing a collaboration with Goodman that began as a pandemic musing and grew into an Off-Broadway run. Emmy-winning writer and producer Lena Waithe has been attached to the project since its debut.

The producers say the show has been refocused for touring, so it plays as community fellowship as much as a play. Expect an exuberant night out rather than a quiet evening in the dark.

A note on content: the show includes frank discussion of sex and sexuality, adult language and sexual humor. It is meant for grown audiences.
