If you've spent the last couple of years arguing with friends about Xaden and Violet, this one's for you. Rebecca Yarros, the author behind the Fourth Wing series, is coming to Downtown LA on Saturday, October 3 to celebrate the release of Threshing Day, a new collection of thirteen stories built around the Fourth Wing characters and their dragons. For book people, it's easily one of the better things to do in Los Angeles that weekend.
The event
Barnes & Noble at The Grove is hosting, but the store isn't holding it in the store. They've moved it to the Million Dollar Theater on Broadway, a 1918 movie palace with room for a real crowd. The program starts at 7 PM and is a conversation: Yarros will be onstage with a special guest, followed by a Q&A.
A few house rules are worth knowing before you go. Every book is pre-signed ahead of time, and nothing gets signed at the theater. There's no signing line, no photos with the author, and no memorabilia or older titles signed. So skip the stack of paperbacks. You're there to hear her talk.
Tickets
Admission runs $48.01 on Eventbrite and includes entry plus one pre-signed copy of Threshing Day. The ticket page listed the event as sold out when we checked, so watch it for returns, since refunds are allowed up to 24 hours before start time. B&N says only tickets bought through its official Eventbrite page will scan at the door, and every attendee needs their own ticket. Don't gamble on resellers.
If you buy a ticket and can't make it, the store holds your book for seven days afterward at The Grove.
Getting there
Doors open to ticket holders at 5 PM, two hours before the talk starts. The organizers warn that some of the line may wait outside, so dress for the weather, and leave big bags at home because they won't be allowed in. Late arrivals may not get in at all.
The theater sits at 307 South Broadway, directly across from Grand Central Market and a short walk from the Pershing Square Metro station on the B and D lines. Parking near Broadway on a Saturday night fills quickly, so the train is the easier call. Grand Central Market makes a good pre-show dinner stop if you're in line early.
