The GRAMMY Museum's Reel to Reel series pairs music documentaries with a setting built specifically for that kind of viewing: a room dedicated to recorded sound history, with an audience that came to pay attention. September 18's screening is Kenny Loggins: Conviction of the Heart, a documentary that traces the arc from the Loggins & Messina folk-country period through the iconic 1980s movie soundtrack era.

The Program

"Conviction of the Heart" is the title of one of Loggins's most-played adult contemporary tracks from 1991, later adopted by environmental campaigns for its lyrical scope. The documentary of the same name takes his catalog and career seriously, which puts it in a different register from the nostalgia-bait often attached to era-specific artists. Loggins's run of film soundtrack placements, from Footloose (1984) to Caddyshack to Top Gun, connects across multiple decades of pop and film history in ways the documentary reportedly works through in depth.

About the Venue

The GRAMMY Museum sits on the ground level of LA Live, at 800 W Olympic Blvd in downtown LA, next to Crypto.com Arena and the convention center complex. It's a small-format museum with rotating exhibitions and a main stage event space. The Reel to Reel series runs regularly and typically includes post-screening discussion or Q&A.

Getting There

Metro access via the A Line (Blue) or E Line (Expo) to Pico Station, then a short walk north. Parking at the LA Live garages is available with validation. The Olympic Blvd entrance puts you at the museum's main door.
