Laughter is good medicine, and on Sunday, November 8, the prescription comes with sequins. REDCAT hosts Sage-Based Drag Night, an interactive, queen-centric comedy and drag show that sits near the top of the list of upcoming events Los Angeles has for the first full week of November.

When: Sunday, November 8, 2026, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Where: REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater), 631 W 2nd St, Los Angeles Tickets: Sold through The Broad's event page (price not listed there)

What is Sage-Based Drag Night?

The Chapter House, The Broad and REDCAT co-present the evening. It is hosted by two Indigenous comedians, Jana Schmieding (Lakota) and Brian Bahe (Diné, Hopi and Tohono O'odham), alongside four queens: Landa Lakes (Chickasaw), Lady Shug (Navajo), Big Mama Tama (Hawaiian, Tahitian, Filipino and Chinese) and Bohenne Arreaux (Jena Choctaw).

What to expect

The program mixes standup comedy with drag performances. It builds to a live recording of the Sage-Based Wisdom podcast, where the hosts and queens hand out what the organizers call the smudgiest, sagiest, solicited advice to audience members who are willing to ask. The word to notice there is "willing": the show is interactive, but nobody gets pulled on stage who doesn't want to be.

At 90 minutes, it is a tidy evening. It works as a first stop for anyone who wants a night of comedy that is a little different from a standard club lineup, and it is the kind of thing that belongs on any list of things to do in Los Angeles that goes beyond the usual.

A bonus with your ticket

Tickets also include admission to The Broad and to the adjoining LA NDN Flea, a Native market held Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8. Organized by The Chapter House and modeled after the flea markets found on many reservations, it features recycled clothing, handcrafted jewelry and original art. If you want to make a day of it, browse the market and the museum before the 6 PM curtain.

Getting there

This is an off-site Broad event. REDCAT sits directly across the street from The Broad at 631 W 2nd St, in the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex. The REDCAT box office and lounge open two hours before showtime for ticket pick up, so arrive early if you are collecting tickets in person.

Downtown parking fills up around the concert hall on event days, so give yourself extra time or take Metro to Civic Center/Grand Park and walk up the hill. For more nearby shows, browse Downtown LA and the full arts and culture calendar.
