Halloween season in Los Angeles has no shortage of haunted houses and costume parties, but a night built around brand-new horror shorts is rarer. On Saturday, October 24, the Silverlake Scream Show returns for its fifth volume at Mica Studios, and it is one of the more distinctive things happening in Los Angeles this month.
What to expect
The centerpiece is an anthology of horror shorts from up-and-coming directors, screened as one program. The poster art frames it as a cursed DVD with seven chilling chapters, so expect a run of short, sharp scares rather than one long feature. Short-form horror is where a lot of new filmmakers get their start, which makes this a decent way to see work before anyone else is talking about it.
Around the screening, the organizers are building a full party. There is a live DJ, food trucks, a full bar and a spooky vendor market, so you can browse and eat before the lights go down and keep the night going after the last chapter ends.
Costumes are an absolute must. The organizers say so plainly in the event FAQ, so plan to dress up. It is half the fun, and the crowd tends to take it seriously.
Details
When: Saturday, October 24, 2026, 6:00 PM to midnight Where: Mica Studios, 356 South Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA 90033 Tickets: $23.18 to $30 through Eventbrite Organizer: Silverlake Scream Show Inc.
Getting there
Parking is very limited in this stretch of town, and the organizers strongly recommend a rideshare or public transit instead of driving. Plan your ride home before the night starts, since the event runs until midnight.
If you are building a Halloween calendar, this pairs well with a daytime outing. Browse our arts and culture section for other screenings, exhibitions and seasonal shows, and check the upcoming events Los Angeles listings to fill out the rest of the weekend.
Worth the ticket
Tickets sit in the low-to-mid $20s up to $30, which is reasonable for a screening, a DJ and a market in one evening. Because it is a ticketed, themed night with a set program, it is a good pick if you want a group plan rather than a bar crawl. Grab a ticket, put the costume together, and show up ready to scream.
