The Jury Experience

Immersive theater in Los Angeles keeps pushing the format, and The Jury Experience is one of the more genuinely inventive entries you'll find among arts events Los Angeles has on offer this fall. Running from October 24 through November 14 at the Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center, the show puts audience members in the jury box and asks them to do something most productions would never dare: actually decide what happens next.

The premise is deceptively simple. You're a juror. The case unfolds in front of you. Exceptional performers bring the trial to life, and when deliberation time comes, your vote counts. The outcome shifts based on what the room decides, which means no two runs of the show play out exactly alike. That's not a marketing line. The script branches on the jury's real-time verdict, so the cast has to be ready for either direction every single performance.

The Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center at 3200 Motor Ave makes a fitting venue for something this scaled-down and precise. It's a mid-sized space that keeps the audience close enough to the action that the courtroom feels genuinely claustrophobic when the tension builds.

For anyone trying to figure out things to do in los angeles this fall that go beyond a standard night at the theater, The Jury Experience lands in a category of its own. It's not participatory in the loose, half-hearted way some immersive productions can be. You are a decision-maker with actual stakes in how the story ends. Come in with a position. You may leave with a different one.
