Weave a Bookmark is on Nov 18, 2026, 2:00 PM. Tickets: Free.
Most of us have a stack of half-read books and nothing to mark our place. This free workshop fixes that with something you make yourself. In about an hour you learn the basics of weaving by building a small bookmark on a cardboard loom, with no experience needed.
When: Wednesday, November 18, 2026, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Where: North Hollywood Library, 5211 Tujunga Ave, Los Angeles, CA 91601 Price: Free
What to expect
The session is led by volunteers from the Southern California Handweavers' Guild. According to the event listing, instructions and supplies are provided, so you do not need to bring a loom, yarn or anything else. A cardboard loom is a simple frame that holds the threads in tension while you pass the weft back and forth, which makes it a friendly first step into a craft that is thousands of years old.
The Guild was founded in 1946 as a way for area weavers to promote their craft, introduce weaving to others and keep learning and sharing together. It is an all-volunteer organization, and this year it is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Teaching a quick, approachable project like this one is a good example of that mission in action.
Who it suits
A weekday afternoon slot makes this a good fit for retirees, homeschool families, night-shift workers and anyone with a free hour in the middle of the day. If you have been curious about fiber arts but intimidated by looms and jargon, a bookmark is about as low-stakes as it gets. You walk out with a finished piece you can actually use.
Getting there
The workshop takes place at the North Hollywood Library on Tujunga Avenue, in the heart of the NoHo Arts District. The listing does not mention registration, so check the event page linked below before you go in case that changes. If you like to plan a week around upcoming events in Los Angeles, this one pairs easily with a stop at the library's shelves, or with a walk through the nearby theaters and galleries.
