Wim Wenders made Wings of Desire in 1987, and it still plays like nothing else in the movies. Two angels drift through the foggy streets of Berlin, listening to the thoughts of the people below, until one of them falls for a trapeze artist and starts to want a body of his own. On Monday, November 9, Vidiots in Eagle Rock puts it on the screen for one night.

What to expect
The film runs 128 minutes and is shown digitally. The dialogue is in German and English with English subtitles, so plan to read along for much of it. Bruno Ganz stars as the angel, with Solveig Dommartin, Curt Bois and Otto Sander, and Peter Falk turns up as a version of himself. Henri Alekan shot it, and the black-and-white Berlin streets are the main reason people keep coming back to it. The soundtrack includes Nick Cave.
It suits a quiet weeknight. There is no band, no Q&A listed and no costume code, just a slow, strange love story that rewards paying attention. If you have only seen the Hollywood remake, this is the original it borrowed from.
