Daniel Sloss is bringing his brand new tour, BITTER, to the Orpheum Theatre on Friday, October 16. There are two shows that night, one at 7:00pm and a late one at 9:45pm. If you're hunting for things to do in Los Angeles that aren't another night of the same bar, a sharp Scottish comic in a 1926 movie palace is a decent answer.
Sloss has built a reputation for stand-up that starts out silly and ends up somewhere you didn't expect. His Netflix specials Dark and Jigsaw came out together in 2019, and Jigsaw in particular got people talking because of how it picks apart relationships. Sloss has talked about hearing from fans who ended relationships after watching it. His HBO special X followed later that year. He tends to work in long, carefully built hours rather than quick one-liners, so a callback from minute five can land hard at minute fifty.
BITTER is the new hour. The tour listing doesn't say much beyond the title, and that's probably on purpose. Go in cold.
The show rules
This one has a few conditions worth knowing before you buy. It's a phones and devices off event. Holding a ticket means you agree not to photograph, film, record or stream the show, and anyone caught doing it gets removed with no re-entry and no refund. Ticketmaster also lists it as 16+ with adult themes and strong language, so it's not a family outing.
The performance is treated as starting at the printed time, and late admittance isn't guaranteed. Late arrivals don't get refunds or exchanges. Tickets are listed as non-transferable, and the card you paid with or a photo ID may be checked at the door. Bring both.
Getting there
The Orpheum is at 842 S. Broadway in the Broadway Theatre District, a few blocks south of Pershing Square. The Pershing Square station on the Metro B and D lines is the easy transit option. Street parking on Broadway gets tight on a Friday night, and there are paid lots and structures around 8th and 9th Streets. If you're catching the 9:45pm show, you've got time for dinner nearby first, and Broadway has plenty of spots within a short walk.
The room itself is half the fun. It's one of downtown's restored historic theaters, with an ornate interior that makes a comedy night feel like a proper occasion.
Tickets
Both shows are on sale through Ticketmaster, and the listing doesn't publish a price, so check the event page for current seats. Come the week of the show, it'll be one of the LA events this weekend that people grab late, so don't wait if you want the earlier set.
