Michael Wolff has spent close to a decade writing about Donald Trump from uncomfortably close range, and on Tuesday, October 20, he brings that habit to a stage on West 7th Street. Inside Trump's Head, the Daily Beast podcast he hosts with Joanna Coles, goes live at the Teragram Ballroom. If your list of things happening in Los Angeles this fall runs heavy on concerts, this is a different kind of night out: two people who've covered the Trump orbit for years, talking it through in front of a room.

Who's on stage

Wolff wrote Fire and Fury, the 2018 book about the first year of the Trump White House, and he's written several more Trump books since. Coles is a longtime magazine editor who ran Cosmopolitan before turning up at the Daily Beast. The premise of their show is right there in the title: the two of them try to work out what Trump is thinking and why. A live taping swaps the studio for a seated crowd that laughs, groans and reacts in real time.

Don't expect stand-up, even though we've filed it with the comedy shows. It's political talk with a gossipy, sharp edge, and how funny you find it will depend a lot on your politics. That's sort of the point.

Tickets and the VIP option

The Ticketmaster listing puts general tickets at $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the show. A $70 VIP meet-and-greet package adds early entry (so you get first crack at the merch table), preferred seating, and a pre-show meet-and-greet where you can grab a selfie. VIP holders can also bring one item for Michael and/or Joanna to sign.

The show is all ages and fully seated, so this isn't a stand-at-the-bar kind of night. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Since VIP ticket holders get early entry and the better seats, show up close to doors if you care where you end up.

Getting there

The Teragram Ballroom is at 1234 West 7th Street, on the western edge of downtown just past the 110. Two practical notes straight from the venue: it's cashless, so bring a card or your phone, and it has no parking lot of its own. Plan on street parking, a paid lot nearby, or a rideshare drop-off out front. By Metro, 7th Street/Metro Center is the nearest big rail hub, and from there it's a walk west along 7th.

A Tuesday start at 8pm leaves time for dinner first, and the blocks around 7th and the 110 have plenty of quick options. It's one of the stranger things to do in Los Angeles on a weeknight in October, and a good pick for anyone whose group chat already argues about the news every morning.
