If you've spent any time on your phone in the last few years, you've probably met German Mom. Or Italian Dad. Or Chiara. They're all Laura Ramoso, a German-Italian comedian based in Canada, and she's bringing every one of them to the Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, October 17 for The Calm Down Tour. For anyone hunting through LA events this weekend, it's one of the few shows where most of the room will already know the characters before the lights go down.

Who Laura Ramoso is

Ramoso was born in Legnago, Italy, to a German mother and an Italian father, then grew up moving between Cameroon, Azerbaijan, China and Vietnam because of her mom's job with the World Health Organization. That childhood shows up all over her work. She studied theater at the University of Victoria, came up through Toronto's Bad Dog Theatre, and went viral in 2022 with videos of American tourists describing their trips to Europe.

Since then she's been named a Just for Laughs New Face of Comedy, taken a show to the Edinburgh Fringe, appeared on What We Do in the Shadows, and opened for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Her 2024 tour, Sit Up Straight, ran more than 60 sold-out dates. She now has over 3.5 million followers.

What to expect from Calm Down

Calm Down is her fourth special and an hour long. Ramoso calls it "a series of sketches with a narrative arc on top," and says it's the most personal show she's done, with her real life coming through the characters more than before. The regulars are back, but there's new material written for the stage rather than the phone screen. The tour opened in January at Just For Laughs Vancouver and has already played Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe before this North American leg. San Francisco gets her the night before, and Portland the following Thursday.

Getting there

The Orpheum is a restored 1926 movie palace on Broadway in downtown LA, and the room is half the fun. Street parking downtown on a Saturday night is a gamble, so budget for a lot nearby or take Metro: the B and D lines stop at Pershing Square, a short walk up Broadway.

When: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8pm
Where: Orpheum Theatre, 842 S. Broadway, Los Angeles
Tickets: Ticketmaster. We couldn't confirm a face value, so check the listing for current prices.
