Nick Rochefort & Alex Schultz at Jam in the Van

Most of LA's stand-up lives on Sunset and Melrose. This one is in Palms. On Thursday, October 8, Jam in the Van hosts a full-length show with Nick Rochefort and Alex Schultz in its own room on Motor Avenue. It's 21+ with limited seating, which makes it one of the smaller, stranger things to do in Los Angeles on a weeknight.

Who's on the bill

Nick Rochefort is a founding member of the sketch troupe Million Dollar Extreme, and he co-created World Peace, the troupe's show on Adult Swim. The listing says a second season is on the way. These days he co-hosts Perfect Guy Life with Sam Hyde and hosts Scuffed Realtor, a weekly real estate investing livestream on YouTube. The flyer leans hard on that last one, with "Scuffed Realtor" stamped across the top in cut-out letters. He also deals antiques on the side, so don't be surprised if that comes up.

Alex Schultz is a filmmaker, writer, director and comic with a surreal, unfiltered style. His work runs from absurdist sketches to viral characters like Alex-Bot. He has two stand-up specials out, Helen Keller and 100% Canadian.

Both comics built their audiences online, so expect a looser, weirder night than a polished club showcase. The organizers note that the lineup is subject to change.

Driving means hunting for street parking, and it's worth doing that before doors. Seats aren't reserved, and getting there close to 6 PM gets you a better view of the stage.
