If you grew up watching Drew Carey hand out meaningless points, this one's for you. Whose Live Anyway? is the touring stage version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, and it lands at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on Saturday, December 5. Among the comedy shows on the calendar for early December, it's one of the easier things to do in Los Angeles with a mixed group, since the listing says all ages are welcome.

Who's in it

The Eventbrite listing names Greg Proops, Jeff B. Davis and Joel Murray as cast members. Proops is the fast-talking one you remember from the TV panel, and he's also voiced characters in Star Wars: Episode 1 and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Davis does uncanny impressions (his Christopher Walken is the one people ask about) and starred in the cartoon series Harmonquest. Murray has more than 250 sitcom appearances behind him, including Freddy Rumsen on Mad Men.

One thing to check before you buy: the listing's text names Ryan Stiles as the fourth performer, while the tour poster shows Gary Anthony Williams in that spot. Touring improv casts rotate, so treat the fourth name as unconfirmed. Laura Hall handles musical direction, which means the made-up songs get a real piano player behind them.

What to expect

The show runs about 90 minutes. Nothing is scripted. Every scene, character and song comes from audience suggestions, so shout something good when they ask. Some audience members get pulled onstage to play along. You'll see games made famous on the TV show plus a few new ones the cast built for the tour.

The venue and getting there

The Wilshire Ebell Theatre sits at 4401 West 8th Street, just off Wilshire Boulevard. It's a historic 1920s hall on the campus of The Ebell of Los Angeles, the women's club that's presenting this show. The room is a good size for improv: close enough to catch the performers' faces, big enough that the laughs build.

Show time is 7:30 PM, per the Eventbrite page. There's no Metro stop at the door. The Wilshire/Western station is about a mile east, and plenty of buses run along Wilshire. If you're driving, leave time to park, since the blocks around the theater are residential and signs vary street to street.

Tickets

Tickets run $79 to $89 through Eventbrite, sold by The Ebell of Los Angeles. It's a one-night stop, and it's one of the more family-friendly Things Happening In Los Angeles that weekend.
