Alex Mendham & His Orchestra bring their first Los Angeles show to the Biltmore Hotel on Saturday, October 17, 2026. It is a rare kind of night among LA concerts: a full period dance orchestra playing in the grand lobby of a hotel that opened in 1923, in the same decade the music comes from.
When: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM Where: The Biltmore Hotel, 506 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles Tickets: Eventbrite
What to expect
Mendham is a British bandleader known for recreating the sound of 1920s and 1930s dance bands, and the organizers describe the evening as a trip back to the golden age. Expect timeless big band numbers and jazz-age standards, played to be danced to rather than just watched. Cocktails are part of the picture, and there are beverages and small bites in the show area. A full food menu is available in the neighboring Gallery Bar until 10:30 PM.
If you have been looking for live music in Los Angeles that feels like an event and not just another club night, this is the sort of evening that fits. The Biltmore's lobby, with its painted ceilings and period details, is a natural stage for it.
What to wear
The dress code is part of the fun. Art deco era attire is welcome, and so is modern formalwear. Athletic wear, beachwear, flip-flops, baseball caps and heavily distressed or profane clothing are not allowed, so plan on dressing up.
Getting there
The Biltmore sits on Grand Avenue in Downtown LA, across from Pershing Square. Validated parking at the hotel is $35 for valet and $15 for self-parking until capacity is reached. Rideshares are encouraged, and parking is also available across Olive Street at Pershing Square. The Metro B and D lines stop at Pershing Square Station, a short walk from the lobby.
Tickets
At the time of writing, the Eventbrite listing showed this night as sold out, and it did not publish a ticket price. Check the listing for any returned tickets or waitlist options before you plan around it.
If this one is out of reach, it is still a good reminder of how much variety turns up on any list of things to do in Los Angeles this season, from swing and jazz to full arena shows.
