Goapele

Goapele is a soul and R&B singer from Oakland, California. Her official biography says she spent her formative years at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and that her name means to move forward in Setswana. She debuted in 2001 with Closer, and her albums include Even Closer and Break of Dawn. Her site lists COLOURS as her latest, with Chris Dave and Errol Cooney among the musicians on it. Her sound blends soul, jazz, pop and moody basslines. Her songs have appeared in the film Hitch and the television series Power, and she has performed on stage with Prince, Stevie Wonder and Common. She also runs Dreamseeker, a lifestyle brand of scented candles and apparel inspired by her synesthesia, which lets her experience color through sound. Goapele is billed at an upcoming run of Los Angeles shows.
