Canned Heat is a Los Angeles band, and that's easy to forget. The group formed here in 1965, a crew of record collectors obsessed with old Delta and Chicago blues 78s, and it went on to play Woodstock four years later. On Friday, September 25, 2026, Canned Heat plays The Venice West. If you're scanning the list of things happening in Los Angeles tonight, a band with that much history in a room this size is hard to pass up.
The Band
You know at least two of their songs even if you don't know the name. "On the Road Again" has that droning, hypnotic boogie riff and the high, thin vocal. "Going Up the Country" opens with a flute line that turned into shorthand for the whole late-60s festival era. "Let's Work Together" was the third big one.
The lineup has changed a lot over six decades. Drummer Fito de la Parra joined in 1967 and he's the one who's still there, the last member from the Woodstock years. He's led the band since the early 80s and keeps the name tied to the same music: shuffles, twelve-bar blues and long, loose boogie jams.
What to Expect
Expect the hits, but expect them stretched out. Canned Heat's live sets have always leaned on extended grooves where the harmonica and guitar trade lines over a rhythm section that doesn't let up. It's dance music in its own way. Some people stand still and nod. Others don't.
The crowd at a show like this tends to mix people who saw the band decades ago with younger blues and classic-rock fans who found the records later. Bring earplugs if you're planning to get close to the stage.
Practical Info
Date: Friday, September 25, 2026 Venue: The Venice West Tickets and times: The listing we found didn't publish a start time or a ticket price, so check the event listing or the venue's own channels before you head out. We'd rather tell you that than guess.
The Venice West is a small club, which means the room fills fast on a named-act night. Plan for street parking or a rideshare, and give yourself extra time on a Friday evening on the Westside.
