The free summer concert series run by LA County Parks and NextFestLA ends its September run in East LA this Saturday, and the last night is a guitar night. "A Night of Chicano Surf Punk and Classic Indie Rock" takes over the East LA Civic Center on September 26 from 5 to 8pm. If you're hunting for concerts in Los Angeles that cost nothing and don't run past a reasonable bedtime, this is a good one to circle.

Who's Playing

The bill was put together by The Citie, and it leans local and loud. Four acts are on the lineup:

  • Floats, a post-punk band
  • Lucys, a dream-pop group
  • En-Vitro, an indie-punk outfit
  • Násmar, an alt-folk project

That's a wider spread than the "surf punk" headline suggests. You get the jangly, reverb-heavy side of things from Lucys, something sharper and more wound-up from Floats and En-Vitro, and a quieter turn from Násmar. Three hours is enough time for each act to play a real set rather than a rushed fifteen minutes.

The Series

Sounds of LA County has spent the summer putting live music into county parks and public spaces, and the September Encore Series added a show every Saturday of the month. This one is the finale. The flyer carries the series theme, "Unidos: Stronger Together, Más Fuertes Juntos," and a Chicano surf punk bill in East LA is about as on-theme as it gets. It's the sort of show that rarely turns up in the usual lists of LA concerts, which tend to favor arena dates and big-ticket residencies.

Practical Info

When: Saturday, September 26, 2026, 5 to 8pm Where: East LA Civic Center (Eventbrite lists the address as 4801 East Third Street, Los Angeles, CA 90022) Price: Free and open to the public RSVP: Eventbrite

Admission is free, but grabbing a free RSVP on Eventbrite helps the organizers plan and puts the event in your calendar. The civic center sits near the Metro E Line's East LA Civic Center station, so you can skip parking entirely. If you drive, give yourself extra time on a Saturday evening, since the surrounding streets get busy.

A 5pm start means you'll catch the first sets in daylight and the last ones after sunset, so bring a layer. The listing doesn't mention seating, so check the Eventbrite page for venue rules before you pack a chair or blanket.
