Friday Pilots Club at El Cid in Silver Lake

Friday Pilots Club is a Chicago band with a Friday in its name and a Tuesday on its Los Angeles calendar. The five-piece plays El Cid in Silver Lake on Tuesday, November 3, with doors at 6pm and a listed finish of 10pm. That makes it one of the earlier-ending concerts in Los Angeles that week, so you'll be home at a sane hour even on a work night.

Who's playing

The band formed in 2017. All five members studied at Columbia College Chicago, where they met while playing in separate projects around the school. Caleb Hiltunen sings. Drew Polovick plays bass, Sean Burke and James Kourafas split the guitar parts, and Eric Doar is on drums.

Two guitarists in a five-piece gives you a fair idea of the sound. The DICE listing calls it soulful and moody, built on guitars, with a lot of care put into texture. They spent their first years putting out EPs and singles that got people talking, then released their first full-length album, Nowhere, in 2024. The room

El Cid sits at 4212 Sunset Blvd, on the Silver Lake stretch of Sunset. It's a Spanish-style building with a patio out back, and it books live bands alongside DJ nights. The music room is small. At a show like this you'll stand a few steps from the stage, and the sound stays close and loud in a way the bigger rooms on a tour routing can't copy.

El Cid is presenting this one itself, and DICE marks it as an all-ages event. That matters, because plenty of Eastside club shows are 21+. If there's a younger guitar-band fan in your house, this is an easy one to bring them to.
