Jawdropped and Fat, Evil Children share a Friday night bill at The Echo on October 2. If you like guitar bands that sound like they were recorded in one room, it's one of the better small-club concerts in Los Angeles this fall. BammBamm & KCRW Present: Jawdropped with Fat, Evil Children lands two weeks after Jawdropped's debut album came out, so expect a set built around the new songs.

Jawdropped

Jawdropped is a Los Angeles indie rock band with two singers, Roman Zangari and Kyra Morling. Their debut album, Secret To Spare, came out September 18 on Transgressive Records and Canvasback. Over ten tracks it pulls from indie rock, 90s alternative radio and alt-country. The band produced it themselves with engineer Colin Knight, and Alex Farrar mixed it. Farrar has also mixed records for MJ Lenderman and Waxahatchee, which gives you a rough idea of where the guitars sit.

They tracked the album live on purpose. "We wanted it to sound like a band in a room," Zangari told The Line of Best Fit, so the songs should hold up on a club stage without losing much. The lead single, "Split Lip," is about being broke in a band that's just starting to get noticed. Zangari calls the lyrics "stories you've overheard as a barfly." One track is titled "Smoglight," which is about as LA as a song title gets.

The band heads back to the UK in October and November for Pitchfork London and a run of headline shows, so this is one of their hometown dates around that trip.

Fat, Evil Children

Fat, Evil Children open. Nic Skrabak, Truman Sinclair, Sebastian Peters and Diego Fernandez met as classmates in USC's Music Technology program, and Skrabak sings and plays guitar. They name Elliott Smith and Modest Mouse as their main influences, and you can hear it in the hooks. Their LP, Fat Evil Dogs, Fat Evil Cats, Fat Evil Bears, Fat Evil Rats, leans toward jangly, melancholy indie folk. It's a good pairing with a headliner that likes its guitars a little rougher.

The room

The Echo sits on the Echo Park stretch of Sunset Boulevard, a few minutes from Silver Lake. It's a small standing-room club, so nobody is far from the stage. The Echoplex, its bigger sibling, is downstairs. For two guitar bands that play loud and mostly live, this room fits.

Before you go

When: Friday, October 2, 2026, 7:00 to 9:00 PM Where: The Echo, 1822 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 Tickets: $27, per the Discover Los Angeles listing

The Discover Los Angeles event page (linked on this page) sends you to Ticketmaster to buy. The listing doesn't give a door time or an age policy, so check your ticket before you head out. Street parking off Sunset gets tight on a Friday night, and a rideshare drop-off right out front is the easier move. If you're sorting through LA events this weekend, this is an early-evening show, so there's time for a late dinner on Sunset after the last song.
