JAY-Z is headed to SoFi Stadium on Friday, October 23. The show is billed as JAY-Z 30, and it's one of the biggest things happening in Los Angeles this fall. He doesn't tour much anymore, so a full stadium night from him is rarer than it used to be.

How this show came together

Roc Nation announced the Los Angeles date in June, right after his headline set at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia got people talking again. The same announcement added a Paris show on September 10. Demand in LA was strong enough that a second SoFi night, Saturday, October 24, has since been added.

The "30" is worth a note. His debut album, Reasonable Doubt, came out in 1996, which puts this fall right at the thirty-year mark. The organizers haven't published a setlist, so we won't pretend to know what he'll play. Still, the catalog is ridiculous. "Dead Presidents," "Hard Knock Life," "Big Pimpin'," "99 Problems," "Empire State of Mind," the Watch the Throne material with Kanye West. Even casual fans know half of it by heart.

We also don't have confirmed guests or an opening act. Ignore any rumors until the official ticketing page says otherwise.

The venue

SoFi Stadium is in Inglewood, next to the Kia Forum and about three miles east of LAX. It's home to the Rams and the Chargers. The translucent roof keeps the weather out and helps the sound stay in the building, which matters for a rap show where you want to catch every word.

The upper levels are far from the stage. If you want to see him and not just the screens, spend a bit more for the lower bowl or the floor.

Tickets and timing

SoFi's event page lists an 8 p.m. start. General on-sale opened in June through Live Nation, after Citi cardmember presales. We don't have a confirmed face-value price, and stadium prices move a lot in the final weeks, so check the official seller before you buy. Be careful with resale listings that look too cheap. If you're weighing this against other upcoming events Los Angeles has that week, keep in mind stadium fees can add a real chunk on top of the ticket.

Getting there

Show nights clog Century Boulevard and Prairie Avenue. Some tips:

  • Parking: buy it ahead of time on the stadium's site if you're driving.
  • Metro: the K Line's Downtown Inglewood station is a little over a mile away. Check for event-day shuttles before you leave.
  • Rideshare: fine for getting there, slow for leaving. Walk a few blocks away before you request a ride.
  • Bags: SoFi has a clear-bag policy, so leave the backpack at home.

Get there early. Security lines for a sold-out stadium take a while, and you don't want to hear "Public Service Announcement" from the concourse.
