Marilyn Manson: Antichrist Superstar 30th at The Wiltern

Marilyn Manson is back in Los Angeles for the first time in eight years, and he picked Halloween weekend to do it. He's playing two nights at The Wiltern, Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1. This listing covers the Sunday show, which starts at 7pm. If you're sorting through LA events this weekend and want something louder and darker than a costume party, this is the one.

The hook is the anniversary. Antichrist Superstar came out on October 8, 1996, and it's the record that turned Manson from a Florida shock-rock act into a national argument. Thirty years later he's building the whole night around it.

What to expect

The show is billed as a curated two-act performance. The first part digs into the story of Antichrist Superstar, the album's rise-and-fall narrative told more or less in order. The second covers the rest of the catalog, from his early industrial material through the 2020s. That includes songs from his most recent record, One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1, which he co-produced with guitarist and composer Tyler Bates (the guy who scored John Wick).

He's coming off a summer co-headlining run with Rob Zombie across North America, 21 dates that wrapped September 20 in Concord. So the band should be tight by the time it hits Wilshire.

The Wiltern is a much smaller room than the amphitheaters on that tour. It's a 1931 Art Deco theater with a sloped floor and a balcony, and the ornate ceiling suits this kind of theatrical staging. Expect a crowd that has waited a long time for this and shows up dressed for it, especially with Halloween the night before.

Go without a car if you can. The Wilshire/Western Metro station, the D Line's western end, lets you out right by the box office. Nearby paid lots fill up fast on show nights, and rideshare pickup on Wilshire crawls once the theater empties. Bring a small bag, since venues on this block search everyone at the door.
