Minty Boi Pres: POiSON GiRL FRiEND Live in LA

POiSON GiRL FRiEND doesn't fit neatly into any single box, which is exactly the point. The solo project of nOrikO, a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and DJ, this show is one of those LA concerts that rewards anyone curious about music that travels between continents and decades without apology.

On October 3, Minty Boi brings POiSON GiRL FRiEND to The Vermont Hollywood for a rare LA performance. Support comes from Samba Jean-Baptiste and RIP Swirl.

Who Is POiSON GiRL FRiEND?

nOrikO was born in Tokyo, raised in Brazil where she attended a French-language school, and later spent time in London. Each chapter left its mark. Her sound pulls from classical music, Brazilian dance rhythms, French chanson, British New Wave, and the club and electronic music that defined the early 1990s. Those aren't just influences she lists on a bio page. They show up in the actual texture of the songs: a bassline that belongs in a São Paulo club, a melody that echoes Jacques Brel, a drum machine pattern lifted from early Factory Records.

The result is a sound that feels out of time in the best way. It sounds like late-night Tokyo, or a Parisian record shop, or a club night in Manchester circa 1991 that you somehow missed but wish you hadn't.

She's been based mainly in Japan, which makes Los Angeles shows genuinely infrequent. This one's worth noting on your calendar.

The Show

Doors open at The Vermont Hollywood, and the bill runs three acts deep. Samba Jean-Baptiste and RIP Swirl both open, giving the night a proper running order. It's all ages, so the crowd will be a mix.

The Vermont Hollywood sits on N Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz, right at the border with Hollywood, making it an easy destination from the east side of the city. Parking is available on surrounding streets, and the Red Line Vermont/Hollywood station is a short walk north.

If you're looking for Hollywood Events that go beyond the standard fare, this bill qualifies. It's not a nostalgia act. nOrikO has been releasing music continuously, and the live show reportedly channels the full range of what POiSON GiRL FRiEND's catalog covers.
