Mohini Dey is one of the most talked-about bass players working today, and on Thursday, November 5, 2026, she brings her band to Blue Note Los Angeles. If you keep a running list of live music Los Angeles has to offer this fall, a room this close to the stage, with a bassist this technical, is worth a spot on it.

When: Thursday, November 5, 2026. Early show at 7:00 PM (doors 5:00 PM), late show at 9:30 PM (doors 9:00 PM) Where: Blue Note Los Angeles, 6372 W Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028 Price: Not listed on the venue page; check the ticket link for current seating prices

Who is Mohini Dey

Dey is a bassist, arranger, producer and vocalist from Mumbai who started working professionally as a child. Blue Note's own listing says she has been in the music business for around twenty years, and it credits her with being the only female bassist ranked in MusicRadar's list of the top ten bassists of the 21st century. She currently plays bass for Willow Smith, and the venue notes appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and NPR's Tiny Desk with that band.

Her résumé reads like a map of modern fusion. The listing names collaborations with Steve Vai, Zakir Hussain, Stanley Clarke, Mike Stern and Victor Wooten, along with Indian film and studio work with artists such as A. R. Rahman. She has also played jazz festivals from Lugano to Delhi, and a Hollywood Bowl appearance is on the list too.

What to expect

Expect a bass-forward night. Dey's playing leans on speed and precision, but the reputation that follows her is about groove and arrangement as much as chops, so a set can move from tight pocket playing to long, open solos. The venue lists reserved seating for this show, which suits that kind of listening: it is a club built for hearing the detail in a player's hands.

Getting there and planning

The club sits on Sunset Boulevard, one of the busier stretches of things happening in Hollywood on any given Thursday, so give yourself extra time for parking and traffic. The early show, with a 5:00 PM door time, is a good fit if you want to be home at a reasonable hour. The late show suits a later night out.

Tickets are sold through the venue and TicketWeb, and the venue warns that those are the only authorized sources, so skip resale sites. Browse more concerts in Los Angeles or see what else is on in Hollywood before you lock in plans for the week.
