Thirty years ago, a DJ named Peanut Butter Wolf started a small record label in 1996. Stones Throw went on to become one of the most respected independent labels in hip-hop, soul and funk, and this October it throws itself a three-day outdoor party in Highland Park, a short walk from its longtime headquarters. Saturday, October 17 is Day 2, and it is the night built around the founder himself.
If you are collecting LA concerts for the month, this belongs near the top of the list.
When: Saturday, October 17, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM Where: 104 N Ave 56, Los Angeles, CA 90042, Highland Park Ages: All ages, in and out privileges until 6 PM, kids 5 and under free Tickets: Through the event page linked below
What to expect
Stones Throw 30 is billed as an outdoor festival with 30 artists across three days, presented with Lodge Room and KCRW. The Day 2 flyer puts Peanut Butter Wolf at the top, followed by a Tuxedo DJ set from Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, Dam-Funk, a J Rocc set celebrating 20 years of Donuts, Karriem Riggins, MNSDGN, Wildchild with DJ Romes, Rasco with Planet Asia, The Koreatown Oddity, Architect and Fanatik. Aloe Blacc and Eric Andre are listed as special guests.
That is a lot of crate-digging, beat-making and DJ history in one afternoon. Expect the day to lean on the label's own family tree: producers, MCs and selectors who came up around Stones Throw and kept making records that sound like nothing else in the catalog.
Planning your day
Because the festival is outdoors and runs from the afternoon into the evening, bring sunscreen, a hat and a layer for after dark. Avenue 56 and Figueroa is a residential stretch of Northeast LA, so parking will be tight. Rideshare, the A Line (the Highland Park and Southwest Museum stations are both nearby) or a bike will make the day easier.
The in-and-out policy until 6 PM is worth using: Highland Park has plenty of food within walking distance, so you can step out for a bite and return. Check the event page for current ticket availability, since a multi-day festival at this scale can sell out ahead of the weekend.
Why it matters
Plenty of things to do in Los Angeles this fall are one-night affairs. A three-day anniversary for a label that shaped the city's sound does not come around often, and Peanut Butter Wolf's own day is the one most likely to be talked about for years. If you want live music Los Angeles style, with a real neighborhood backdrop and a lineup full of people who built the scene, this is it.
