Æffect Radio 16-Year Anniversary at The Airliner

Æffect Radio turns 16 this week, and the anniversary party lands at The Airliner in Lincoln Heights on Thursday, September 24. It starts at 7 PM and runs until 1 AM. Entry is $10.

Six DJs are on the bill: Wheez-ie, Freeman 713, Yessi, Songco, Codiac and Infinity Edge. The genre list reads like a map of the low end. Footwork and juke sit next to techno, drum and bass, jungle and dubstep, so expect the tempo to swing hard over the course of the night rather than lock into one groove.

A six-hour weeknight party with a $10 door is rare on the LA EDM events calendar. Most rooms this size charge double that for half the music.

The room

The Airliner is a 100-year-old neighborhood bar at 2419 N Broadway. Downstairs is the bar itself, with cocktails, natural wine and an Asian comfort food menu. The dancing happens upstairs, in what the venue calls its renovated hi-fi sound room: a wood-lined space built around Klipsch speakers. Warm wood and a proper hi-fi rig suit fast breakbeat music better than a bare concrete box does, because the kicks stay tight instead of smearing.

Before you go

Tickets are sold through the Resident Advisor listing linked on this page. The start is early for a club night, so you can catch the first sets straight after work. The bar's kitchen normally takes last orders at 10 PM, so eat before then if you want dinner there. Bring ID.
