B-Side Los Angeles brings back its Face to Face format for the second edition of Mirror Mode, and this one pairs Machinedrum against Rohaan for a full night at Don Quixote on Saturday, November 21. Doors open at 9pm and the bill runs until 2am, with several more Face to Face pairings on the bill below the headline match.

Mirror Mode isn't a typical back-to-back. B-Side builds the format around two artists trading blocks of music rather than blending into one seamless set, which keeps each producer's identity intact even as the night moves between them. The promoter is also turning Don Quixote into what it's billing as a 360-degree production for the night, with a custom Face2Face stage build, a full lighting and laser rig, a curated night market and live painting around the floor.

Who's Playing

Machinedrum needs little introduction at this point. He's spent decades pushing at the edges of electronic music production, moving between footwork, jungle, drum and bass and club music without ever settling into a single lane, and he's built a catalog that still sounds forward-looking years after it was made. That restlessness is exactly what makes a format like Mirror Mode work for him: trading blocks with another producer forces a different kind of pacing than a solo headline set.

Rohaan is the newer name on the bill but has built a fast, co-signed résumé, with support from Four Tet, Fred again.., John Summit, Jamie xx, Zeds Dead, Noisia and LORN. His output leans toward relentless, forward-thinking bass production, and the Machinedrum pairing reads as a deliberate generational contrast, a veteran of electronic music's shape-shifting corners against a producer still actively redefining his own sound.

The Venue

Don Quixote sits at 2811 E Olympic Blvd in Boyle Heights, a two-story room with a second-floor balcony overlooking the main floor and a listed capacity around 750. It's been part of the neighborhood's nightlife for more than 25 years, started life as a banquet hall, and has become one of the rooms LA's bass and dubstep promoters return to for a show that needs both scale and an all-night sound system.

Getting There

Olympic Boulevard gets a steady flow of traffic from downtown, so budget extra time if you're driving over from the Westside. Street parking around Boyle Heights fills up fast on a Saturday night, and a 2am finish means a rideshare is the easier call than hunting for a spot blocks away.
