Bassvictim headlines The Novo in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 23, with Dead Butterflies and Thoom opening. Goldenvoice is presenting the show. Doors at 8pm, all ages, tickets from $43.

Bassvictim

Bassvictim is the duo of Maria Manow and Ike Clateman. They work in bass house, a strain of electronic dance music that leans harder into sub-bass pressure and rhythmic punch than standard UK house or tech house. The sound has a physical quality that rewards a good room with a real sound system.

The two have been building a following through touring and a steady run of releases. Their DJ sets move between bass-forward club edits and their own productions. If you've seen them before, you know the energy doesn't coast. If you haven't, this is a solid entry point: The Novo is a proper mid-size venue that handles this kind of music well, and the Goldenvoice booking signals a serious production.

This is part of a short West Coast run. The night before, they play Observatory North Park in San Diego. After LA, they're back at The Novo on the 24th with Thoom again. Three nights in a row at rooms that know how to host this music.

Dead Butterflies and Thoom

Dead Butterflies and Thoom round out the lineup as supporting acts. Both play earlier in the night. If you're coming for the full experience rather than just the headliner, arriving close to doors gives you time to settle in before the room fills.

The Novo

The Novo sits at 800 W Olympic Blvd inside the LA Live complex in South Park, one block from Crypto.com Arena. It holds around 2,300 people, which puts it in a useful middle ground: big enough to have real production, small enough that you're not watching the artist on a screen. The sound system is capable, and the floor layout works for a standing dance show.

Getting to the venue by car means navigating downtown parking, which is available in the LA Live structure on Olympic or in the surrounding lots. Rates go up for events, so arriving early helps. The Metro A Line and E Line both stop at 7th St/Metro Center, about a 10-minute walk south through the convention center area.

Getting There

By Metro: Take the A Line or E Line to 7th St/Metro Center, then walk south on Figueroa or cut through the convention center plaza. The walk takes around 10 minutes.

By Car: Exit the 110 Freeway at Olympic Blvd. Parking is in the LA Live structure at 900 W Olympic Blvd. Arrive early; rates increase closer to showtime.
