Bolo at Fox Theater Pomona

Bolo plays the Fox Theater in Pomona on Saturday, December 19, and if you haven't made the drive out to the 909 for a dance music show, this is the kind of booking worth the trip.

The Artist

Bolo works in tech house, the tighter, more rhythmically precise cousin of deep house that has dominated club floors over the past several years. Tech house at its best has a mechanical insistence: the kick is locked in, the elements are stripped back, and the mix rewards patience. Bolo fits this model well. He plays with control rather than surprise.

A lot of tech house DJs operate at the same pace and end up blurring together over the course of a night. The ones who stand out know when to shift gears without breaking the structure. Bolo is in that category.

The Venue

The Fox Theater is a 1931 movie palace that was converted into a concert and event space. It's at 301 W Mission Blvd in downtown Pomona, about 35 miles east of central Los Angeles. The Fox has a capacity of around 4,500 and a main floor that works well for dance events. The sound system is solid.

Pomona doesn't always get credit for its music scene, but the Fox has hosted some legitimate bookings over the years, and the San Gabriel Valley has a real audience for electronic music.
